*** Don't despair if you find your layout
clashing with good FengShui. Many times, simple and inexpensive solutions
are available, and sometimes, your "Life Destiny" influence is
stronger than any FengShui mistakes you might encounter. ***
Doors
1. Doors should open inwards to allow
beneficial Qi (氣)to
enter the house.
2. Glass doors. Glass represents the
'Water' (水)
element. It is best for main doors
facing North (北),
which is also the 'Water' direction.
3. Neutral colors for doors are the safest
bet to not clash with the five elements.
4. Bedroom doors should not face the
kitchen or bathroom.
5. When entering the front door of a house,
you should not be able to see the knobs on the stove/range.
6. Staircases should not be directly in
front of the main door.
7. The toilet bowl itself should not be
facing the bathroom door directly.
8. Bedroom doors should not face each other
(conflicts between the occupants).
9. The main door of a house should not face
the main door of your neighbor across the street.
10. Look for sharp corners of buildings
pointing at the main door of your house. You can hang a BaGua (八卦)
mirror to resolve this.
11. The front door should not have a
unrestricted path straight to the back door or balcony.
12. The front door should not have a tree
or lamp post right in front of it.
13. The front door should not face a hill
(unless it is far away).

Kitchens
1. The sink and/or refrigerator (both
'Water' 水 elements)
should not be opposite the stove/range ('Fire' 火
element).
2. The sink and refrigerator should be at
least 12 inches from the stove/range. Some masters recommend 18 inches,
some 2 feet).
3. When not in use, make sure the water
faucet is not pointing towards the stove/range.
4. Do not locate the stove under an exposed
support beam. This can be remedied if you don't have a choice without
major remodeling.
Living and Dining Rooms
1. Well-lit, preferably with natural
lighting.
2. Don't place mirrors on the ceiling of
the living room.
3. Cover up all exposed ceiling beams if
possible. Otherwise you will have to employ the 3 big nails method, or 2
wooden or bamboo flutes 簫,
or the gourd 葫蘆
method.
4. The living room should be at the same
level as the rest of the house, or at the lowest level of the house if that is
not possible.
5. The dining room should not be under the
stairs.
6. The dining table should not have sharp
corners (圓圓滿滿).

Bathroom
1. The bathroom should not be next to the
main door, or above it on the second level.
2. Avoid having a bathroom in the middle of
the house.
3. The toilet bowl should not face a major
road.
Staircases
1. Should not be visible from the front
door.
2. Should not be in the middle of a house.
3. Should not directly lead to a bathroom
or bedroom.
Clocks
1. Should not be hung over a door.
2. Should not face the stove/range, door or
window, unless it had been placed there specifically to counter bad Qi (殺氣),
e.g., to counter a straight walkway from the front gate right to your front
door.

Bedrooms
1. Beds should not be under an exposed
beam.
2. Beds should not be in the straight line
path of the bedroom door.
3. Avoid having sharp corners from
furniture pointing at the bed.
4. Avoid mirrors (and dull reflective
surfaces like a TV monitor screen) facing the bed. Cover them when not in
use.
5. Avoid sleeping above the kitchen or
garage. This might be unavoidable in today's newer houses, where the
interest of space necessitate building rooms over the garage. As long as
the main breadwinner(s) for the family doesn't live in that bedroom, things
should be fine.
6. Avoid having aquariums and paintings
with water sceneries in the bedroom.
7. The bed should be placed against a wall
(solid backing).
8. The bed should not face the toilet door.

Miscellaneous
1. Planting trees behind a house gives it a
strong "back" 後有靠山,
that helps if you don't already have a hill at the back of your house.
This back is the position of the Tortoise. The left of your house is your
Green Dragon position. It would be alright if it were at the same level or
higher than your house. The right side of your house is the White Tiger
position and should be lower, quiet and peaceful. A slow flowing river or a water fountain, in
the front of the house is ideal.
2. A plot of land should have a front that
is not larger than the rear. It symbolizes the accumulation of wealth.
3. A house in the shape of a square is the
most ideal. Rectangles and L-shaped houses are also acceptable.
Missing corners should be remedied to create a "full" and regular
shape.
